Press Release: Candlewood Hotel Co., Inc.
June 5, 2001
WICHITA, KS -- The Tempe/Scottsdale Cambridge Suites in Tempe, Ariz., opened yesterday. The hotel is the second
Cambridge Suites and the first to be franchised.
Cambridge Suites is Candlewood Hotel Co.'s new upscale hotel concept for business and leisure travelers, founded
on the value-oriented philosophy of the company's established Candlewood Suites brand.
The newly renovated hotel, at 1635 N. Scottsdale Road, is conveniently located between Tempe and Scottsdale, Ariz.
It is just three miles from Tempe's Mill Avenue, a popular dining and shopping area. Upscale shopping and dining
in Scottsdale's Old Town historic district is only five miles away.
Cambridge Suites is also just 12 miles from downtown Phoenix and four miles from Sky Harbor International Airport.
The Highway 202 ``loop'' through Phoenix is 1/4 mile north on Scottsdale Road, providing convenient connections
to Interstate Highway 10 and State Highway 60. The hotel is easily accessible to those traveling to the Mayo Clinic,
Arizona State University and Sun Devil Stadium.
Other nearby attractions include the Phoenix Zoo and Botanical Gardens, both within two miles. Several golf courses
and restaurants are also in the area.
The renovated hotel, formerly a Ramada Suites, includes 140 suites: 137 one-bedrooms and three studios. All suites
are bigger than average and include a large work area with a data port, adjustable executive chair, and oversized
recliner. Many suites also now include complete kitchens, giving travelers a choice based on their needs. The hotel
does serve a complimentary continental breakfast daily and valet service is available.
On-site meeting rooms can accommodate up to 120 people and the hotel team can arrange for the latest in technical
equipment. The Cambridge Suites also includes a heated pool, sun deck, whirlpool tub, and putting green.
Other amenities include free local phone calls, low-cost long distance, 25-cent soft drinks, free laundry facilities,
free CD checkouts, and an exercise room. Food items, snacks and sundries are available 24-hours-a-day at grocery
store prices from the honor-based Candlewood Cupboard pantry.
``Guests will love our location and our quality rooms -- and our amenities are hard to beat,'' says Tracy Fortin,
hotel general manager. ``My team, too, is committed to providing the best stay possible.''
The Tempe/Scottsdale Cambridge Suites is owned by Sam Huang under a license agreement with Candlewood Hotel Co.
Candlewood is operating the hotel.
Candlewood Hotel Co. (Nasdaq: CNDL) owns, operates and licenses Candlewood Suites; and licenses and operates Cambridge
Suites. Both concepts serve travelers on short- or long-term stays. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jack DeBoer
founded Candlewood Suites in 1995 and Cambridge Suites in 1998. DeBoer previously founded Residence Inn and co-founded
