Press Release
January 5, 2001
LAS VEGAS, NV -- New World LLC, a partnership comprising leading Las Vegas developers and land brokers, yesterday
announced a land deal that will involve three megaresorts on prime property on the south end of the Strip.
The New World partners -- Bob Unger, Barry Fieldman, Howard Bulloch and David Gaffin -- said grading has begun
on approximately 77 acres of the privately owned land across from Mandalay Bay and adjacent to the airport.
The project is being called ``The World Port Resorts,'' and is expected to include hotel/casinos, a convention
center, an entertainment facility, retail and restaurants.
``This is absolutely one of the most premier locations on the Strip to develop a megaresort,'' said Unger, who
is president of Makena Companies, a real estate development firm with several projects in the Las Vegas Valley.
``When completed, this will be a huge asset to the economy and a popular destination for both tourists and locals.''
The partners say development is imminent, but they plan for a joint venture to evolve. Fieldman says that if a
joint venture occurs, the development could take on many faces, including themed hotel/casinos, and could bring
in fresh faces to the Las Vegas Strip.
``The development will ultimately be a win-win for Las Vegas as a whole,'' said Fieldman, president of Makena Development.
``Not only will tourists encounter an exciting, new destination to visit, but locals will also enjoy a new site
and thousands of job opportunities.''
The project comes at a time when the Las Vegas Strip is ready for the next wave of development. The World Port
Resorts also is emerging at a time when visitor volume to Southern Nevada continues to rise.
``Millions of tourists visit Las Vegas annually, and this will provide yet another avenue for them to enjoy our
wonderful city,'' said Gaffin, a principal of New World LLC.
``We purchased the property from some long-standing business owners,'' said Bulloch, a prominent broker and principal
of New World, LLC. ``This project will open doors to a new beginning on the famous Las Vegas Strip.''
