Press Release: Lilac Tree Hotel
February 19, 2001
MACKINAC ISLAND, MI -- The Lilac Tree Hotel on Mackinac Island recently added a 2,200 square foot meeting and banquet
facility -- the Mackinac Room -- which is able to accommodate business meetings, weddings, receptions, and parties
for as many as 120 people, and possibly more. The facility, which offers full service catering and two separate
breakout rooms, is available for individual groups, as well as guests of the Lilac Tree Hotel and Chippewa Hotel.
The new facility at the Lilac Tree features all new furnishings, including wall coverings, furniture, carpeting,
fixtures, lighting, and other essentials. The entire hotel also recently updated its look with new wall coverings
and new carpeting. Built in 1991, the hotel has 39 guest suites and is located in the central downtown area.
The Chippewa Hotel, the Lilac Tree's sister property on the Island, is located one-half block away. The Chippewa
features 61 rooms, 28 of which overlook the harbor, and recently completed a $4 million renovation. The Chippewa
is a full service facility featuring waterfront rooms and the popular Pink Pony Lounge. Guests staying at either
hotel may use the Chippewa's large hot tub or reserve the Lilac Tree's banquet facility.
``With this new facility and our rooms at the Chippewa, we're able to host large groups for all sorts of events,''
says Bob Benser of the Lilac Tree and Chippewa. ``In fact, we're the only downtown property with this much room
for meetings and parties. We feel that both hotels are superior properties. Our goal is to attract corporate meetings,
receptions, and banquets. There are several already booked for this year. This is something we've wanted to do
for a long while.''
