Press Release: Jim Fowler's Life in the Wild
April 6, 2001
BRUNSWICK, GA -- The Fowler Center for Wildlife has announced its intention to move forward with plans to build
Jim Fowler's Life in the Wild, a 2,000-acre wildlife park near Brunswick at Exit 42 on I-95, 60 miles south of
Savannah, Ga. Under the leadership of Jim Fowler, the Park's namesake, Life in the Wild will serve as a wildlife
resort, educational center and preserve for indigenous and exotic animals.
The Park's development team is close to finalizing a construction agreement, with plans to break ground this summer
and open to the public in 2002. Park developers are in the final stages of securing sponsorships and contributions
to provide a portion of the equity for the $30-million project.
Concurrently, the developers expect to raise a significant portion of the funding by issuing tax-exempt bonds.
Banc America Securities LLC has been retained to structure the financing. It is anticipated that bonds will be
issued during the second quarter of 2001.
Park developers initially planned to close on the site in December 2000, but were delayed while securing project
approval by the Army Corps of Engineers. Beers Construction has been hired as general contractor and the construction
schedule for Phase I is estimated at 10-11 months.
Jim Fowler1s Life in the Wild will create excitement by placing native, North American, African, Asian, and exotic
animals in large, free roaming habitats similar to their native environments. Visitors will be taken on expedition
rides through these areas in secured off-road vehicles.
Jim Fowler's Life in the Wild is not a zoo, but a wildlife resort for animals and people. Its purpose is to create
adventure and excitement for visitors while teaching them the value of wildlife and open space and how they enhance
the quality of life for humans and animals.
All Park animals will be those orphaned, injured, confiscated or born in zoos. No animals will be taken from the
wild.
Unique in concept, Jim Fowler's Life in the Wild promises to become a major travel destination with a projected
opening year attendance of 450,000. Close ties with local schools and colleges will make Life in the Wild a leading
wildlife education center for all ages. Inquiries should be directed to: Jim Fowler's Life in the Wild, P.O. Box
