Hampton Hotels Awards 1 Million Hilton HHonors Points to Its First Million Points Promotion Winner for February

10 Million HHonors Points Still to Be Awarded -- 1 Million Each Month Through Dec. 31, 2001, for Booking Online

Press Release
April 4, 2001
MEMPHIS, TN -- Hampton(TM), the national brand of midpriced Hampton Inn® and Hampton Inn & Suites® hotels, yesterday announced the first winner of its colossal Hilton HHonors® promotion that will award 1 million Hilton HHonors points to one Hampton guest each month through 2001.

Hilton HHonors has added 1 million points to the membership account of Daniel Barry of Louisville, Ky.

``Other than the day when my wife said `yes,' she would marry me, this is the first thing I've won,'' said Barry, who was notified that he was the first winner on his cell phone, just leaving the Hampton Inn hotel in West Springfield, Mass. ``I'm a little shocked ... we're going to have a blast!''

A traveling salesman, Barry has traveled throughout nearly three-fourths of the United States and plans to use his 1 million Hilton HHonors points toward trips to some of his favorite places, like San Francisco and parts of the West he hasn't visited.

An award of 1 million Hilton HHonors points can grant a dream vacation (or multiple vacations!) almost anywhere in the world. Winners of this promotion can choose to use their points for accommodations at more than 2,000 hotels and resorts worldwide and from 15 choices of airlines through HHonors Reward Exchange, enabling members to exchange HHonors points for airline miles and miles for HHonors points with participating airlines.

``We still have a total of 10 million more HHonors points to award through the end of this year, meaning that 1 million HHonors points will be awarded to one HHonors member each month (March through December) who books his or her stay at Hampton online,'' said Judy Christa-Cathey, vice president of Hampton Brand Marketing.

Hampton already has experienced a 250 percent increase in online hotel bookings year over year, and the hotel brand hopes promotions such as this will encourage online trial for reservations among its more than 1,000 locations across the United States.

Now through Dec. 31, 2001, Hilton HHonors members like Barry, who book reservations online and at any Hampton hotel, are automatically entered into the million-points drawing during the month their stay is completed. No purchase is necessary.

Official rules and details for the ``Hampton 1 Million Hilton HHonors Points Giveaway'' can be found on the Hampton Web site at hamptoninn.com by clicking on ``Million Points.'' Consumers also can obtain information about joining HHonors through the Hampton Web site by clicking on ``Hilton HHonors.''

``As part of the family of brands under Hilton Hotels Corp., Hampton hotels joined Hilton HHonors -- hailed as one of the best guest reward programs in the lodging industry -- in April of 2000,'' said Jeffrey A. Diskin, president and chief operating officer of Hilton HHonors Worldwide.

``This point promotion is an effective way to remind consumers that Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn & Suites hotels participate in one of the largest and most rewarding hotel guest reward programs in the industry.''
