Press Release: Clear Channel Communications Inc.
November 5, 2001
PHOENIX, AZ -- Las Vegas-based Clear Channel (NYSE:CCU) Taxi Media is joining efforts to boost Las Vegas tourism
by allocating more than $1 million to promote the city in seven markets around the country.
In November and December, the taglines ``Freedom to Get Away'' and ``Las Vegas: Still the Best Way to Get Away''
will be displayed on the rooftops of 1,550 taxicabs in Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Phoenix
and San Francisco.
``The company's decision to use its considerable resources across the country on behalf of Las Vegas tourism was
an effortless one,'' said Tony Preus, vice president of Clear Channel Taxi Media, which was founded in Las Vegas.
``Las Vegas has given so much to us and our company and we just want to give back,'' Preus said. ``Our hub is in
Las Vegas, and we wanted to help the city get back on its feet by utilizing our other markets. We thought this
was a great way to support the new television and print campaign.''
The two-sided taxi tops will reflect the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority's (LVCVA) new advertising
campaign launched Sept. 30 to bolster tourism numbers following the events of Sept. 11. Print and television ads
feature lyrics from the never-before released Frank Sinatra song ``It's Time for You.'' The campaign echoes the
urgings of the nation's leaders to get back to the business of living, and reflects research findings that show
the public's need to take a break from the real world. The general messages in the campaign provide visitors with
permission to get away while promoting Las Vegas' amenities and emphasizing value.
``This is another fine example of all the individuals and groups who have banded together to support the industries
that make Las Vegas the great destination that it is, enabling us to continue to offer visitors an unforgettable
experience,'' said Rossi Ralenkotter, vice president of marketing for the LVCVA.
