Suburban Lodges Reports May Increases in AWR, Occupancy and RevPAR

Press Release
June 11, 2001
ATLANTA, GA -- Suburban Lodges of America, Inc. (Nasdaq:SLAM), owner/franchisor of the Suburban Lodge and GuestHouse International hotel brands and operator of 66 Company-owned Suburban Lodge hotels, June 8 announced that weekly revenue per available room (``RevPAR'') at its owned properties advanced to $163.63 in May 2001, a two percent increase from weekly RevPAR of $160.10 during May 2000.

Increases in both average weekly rate (``AWR'') and average occupancy rate contributed to the increase in the Company's RevPAR. Average occupancy increased to 81.4% in May 2001 from 81.2% in May 2000. AWR for Company-owned hotels increased by two percent, to $201.35 in May 2001 from $197.36 in May 2000.

The Company's rate of growth in RevPAR exceeded that of the hotel industry for each of the first four months of 2001. At this date, industry data for May has not yet been issued. The Company believes that its growth in RevPAR for May will compare favorably to an anticipated decline in RevPAR for the industry. ``We continue to be pleased with the performance at our hotels, particularly as we hear discouraging statements from other hotel operators and industry analysts,'' stated Chuck Criscillis, the Company's Chief Financial Officer.

Suburban Lodges of America, Inc. owns, franchises and manages Suburban Lodge hotels, the nation's largest chain of economy extended-stay hotels, and franchises GuestHouse International hotels, the mid-market nightly stay hotel chain with the franchisee-friendly franchise agreement.
