Group lists 10 most threatened Washington sites

An environmental organization says each is at a point where urban sprawl could devalue it

SEATTLE -- Sites as diverse as Mount Rainier National Park and a tiny Cascades town featured in the TV series "Northern Exposure" are among 10 Washington spots most threatened by urban sprawl, an environmental group says.

"Each sits at a critical crossroads where decisions that policy-makers and voters make now will either destroy or preserve their resources, scenic value and regional significance," Aaron Ostrom, executive director of 1000 Friends of Washington, said Wednesday.

The report's 10 most endangered places:

• Roslyn, a 900-resident town and proposed site of MountainStar, a planned massive resort development. Roslyn doubled for the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska, in "Northern Exposure."
