LOS CABOS, B.C.S., Mexico -- Construction of the new Tom Weiskopf Signature design course is progressing rapidly at Cabo del Sol, an 1800-acre master-planned golf resort community. This new 18-hole, 72-par layout, Weiskopf's first in Latin America, broke ground in May and is scheduled to open in November 2001, according to Cabo del Sol partners, the Day Group and ICA.

``Cabo del Sol offers a great opportunity for me to take advantage of incredible natural surroundings -- a unique combination of desert and ocean, unusual rock formations, an intense variety of desert foliage and dramatic canyon-like arroyos,'' says Weiskopf. ``My design for this course guarantees ocean views from almost every hole, something every golfer will surely enjoy.''

Overall course yardage will vary from 5,300 to 7,100 yards, while greens will range from 5,000 to 7,500 square feet with gentle, subtle rolls and elevation changes. The bunkering will be dramatic in the landing areas as well as around the greens, yet very playable. Wide yet containing fairway corridors will afford golfers great visual appeal off the tee.

Rough grading on the course has been completed on the first seven holes and irrigation installation is underway. Grassing will begin on these holes this December. Initial clearing and shaping of the remaining holes of the course will start in mid-October, according to construction project manager Ruben Martinez of Diamond International, builders of the Weiskopf course.

``We are thrilled to be moving ahead with the new Weiskopf design,'' says Jonathan Jaffrey, principal for the Los Angeles-based Day Group. ``We are committing approximately $12 million to the construction of this course and we are confident it will rank among the best in the world.''

Currently, Cabo del Sol features the Ocean Course, a Jack Nicklaus Signature design ranked among the ``Top 100 Courses in the World,'' two oceanfront luxury hotels and several residential neighborhoods. The golf facilities at Cabo del Sol are being managed by Troon Golf, head-quartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, and noted for their expertise in managing world class golf courses.

This fall, Cabo del Sol will release 100 new custom lots for sale, many sporting unobstructed views of the Weiskopf course and the Sea of Cortes. In conjunction with the release of new lots, a golf membership program will be announced and construction of a golf clubhouse will begin. At build out Cabo del Sol will feature three championship courses, 1,700 residential units, four hotels, tournament tennis facilities, golf clubhouse, beach club and village center.

Cabo del Sol is a partnership between the Day Group and ICA (Empresas ICA, S.A. de C. V.). Comprised of a group of investors led by Robert A. Day, Founder and C.E.O. the TCW Group, Inc., the Day Group has been a partner in the project for more than ten years.
