BELIZE CITY, Belize -- Like its neighbors in the Yucatan, parts of Belize are experiencing the effects of Hurricane
Keith, which has been downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane as of this morning.
The northern cities of Belize City and Corozal, as well as the islands of Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker are the
most effected, with strong winds and heavy rains reported and low lying areas experiencing some flooding. Currently,
the winds are dying down and there are no reports of loss of life. The Philip Goldson International Airport is
closed and power is currently out in these northern areas of the country.
The Belize Tourism Board reports that an emergency meeting has been slated for later today, and information will
be updated and issued at that time.
