Nearly seven months ago, Regent International Hotels and Carlson Vacation Ownership, sister companies within Minneapolis-based Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, announced that they would simultaneously enter the Park City market and the luxury vacation ownership industry.

On Thursday, Club Regent Park City held a small ceremony, officially marking the start of the first Club Regent. Carlson Vacation Ownership has announced plans to build between two and four "private residence clubs" each year for the next five years.

"We are honored that Carlson chose us and chose Park City for its first Club Regent," said Morgan Eldredge, representing the Park City project.

The first 30 of what ultimately will be 100 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom and penthouse condominium residences are the focus of the first phase of the Club Regent project, along with pools, a spa and the complexs great room. They are expected to be open before the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Subsequent phases will complete the balance of the condominium facilities, along with other general membership facilities.

The property is located on about four acres near The Canyons base area, and will connect to the ski resort with its own private gondola.

"Our guests will be able to take the gondola up to within feet of the base of The Flight of The Canyons lift," Eldredge said. "During the summer, they will be able to walk to the 10th tee of the golf course, or take our gondola to the first tee."

Both the Park City operation and the overall Club Regent will continue along the upscale lines of Regent Hotels around the world, he added, with "a very, very high-end client, the kind of person who wants a completely worry-free vacation, where his every need is anticipated and met. Its more a private residence club than a condo timeshare operation."

Members will each have three designated one-week periods of use for their personal unit, one in winter, one in summer and one in either spring or fall seasons. They will have the opportunity to trade weeks with another member though not necessarily in the same unit. As future Club Regents are developed, the ability to trade locations will also be available to members.
