Company Press Release: Wall Street Transcript
April 10, 2000
NEW YORK, NY -- The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with Thomas Arasi, President of Bass plc (NYSE: BAS), in which he talks at length about his company's future.

The entire 2,400-word interview is available free online at http://www.twst.com/ceos.htm

Arasi states, ``Bass plc is a company that is in excess of 200 years old. It was founded in brewing beer, everything from the brewing and manufacturing to the sale and distribution of it. That evolved over time to a leisure business which had all sorts of activities, primarily anchored by pubs and restaurants and branded food and beverage outlets.''

Arasi explains, ``The challenges are to, number one, grow our Holiday Inn brands outside of North America to a larger size. That's a big challenge -- not that it's a problem. We're already bigger in the middle market globally than any other middle-market brand. But the challenge, generating that kind of growth rate to take advantage of our potential, is one of our goals. Second, to increase our distribution in North America of Inter-Continental.''

Looking forward, Arasi states, ``We're looking to align ourselves with real estate that has strategic importance to our customers, so we look for properties that are strategically right. The second thing that we look for is financial and development partners that we can do multiple deals with.''
