Former Holmes à Court island sells for $4 million

The one-time private retreat of the Holmes à Court family, Double Island, has changed hands once again, with a private Sydney investor paying just over $4 million for the luxury resort.

Located 1.4 kilometres off Cairns' Palm Cove, Double Island has suffered a chequered history, despite boasting major infrastructure, including a water pipeline linked to the main land.

Its disposal is the first in a major sell-off of receivership and liquidator stock in North Queensland and is expected to be closely followed by the sale of the Cairns Beach Resort.
