September 6, 2000
UNCASVILLE, CT -- Perini Building Co., a division of Perini Corp. (AMEX: PCR) September 1 placed the last steel beam on the New Mohegan Sun 10,000-seat arena.

The beam was signed by guests and project members attending a ceremony led by Roland J. Harris, chairman, Mohegan Tribal Council. The topping-off of the Mohegan Arena marks the first construction milestone on the largest private development on the East Coast.

Perini Building Co. is the construction manger on Project Sunburst. The company is responsible for day-to-day construction operations, logistics and scheduling. Perini was awarded the $800 million construction contract by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority.

The 4.9 million sq. ft. expansion is on a 36-month fast-track schedule with the Mohegan Arena, Casino of the Sky, restaurants and retail element being completed by Fall 2001 with the hotel/convention space completed by Spring 2002.

To meet the aggressive deadline, multiple baseline construction schedules are established for each of the major components, such as the Mohegan Arena, 34-story luxury hotel tower and podium.

``Although there is one main schedule, each component has its own timeline for structure through enclosure and its own finish schedule,'' stated Travis Burton, senior project manager for Perini Building Co.

Perini Building Co. has a staff of 70 people on site project managers, superintendents, engineers and administrative personnel. It is estimated at the high point of construction there will be 1,800 construction personnel employed on the job, many of whom will be Native Americans.

Sunburst construction includes:

10,000-seat arena

34 story, 1,200 room tri-winged luxury hotel tower with a 45,000 sq.
    ft. lobby

115,000 sq. ft. functioning planetarium, the largest planetarium dome
    in the world

28,000 sq. ft. full-service spa and fitness center with 20 dry and wet
    treatment rooms
        16,000 sq. ft. indoor pool
        12,500 sq. ft. sun terrace

115,000 sq. ft. casino - when complete, the Mohegan will have one of
the largest casinos in the world

175,000 sq. ft. of premium retail space

100,000 sq. ft. of high-tech, flexible meeting space, including a
40,000 sq. ft. grand ballroom - New England's largest

300-seat cabaret theater

9 new dining establishments

2 parking structures with a total of 5,000 spaces

The design team on the project includes the Mohegan Tribe, Architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, Rockwell, and interior designer Hirsh Bedner. The entire project has been designed around authentic Mohegan culture, folklore and earth, wind, fire and water -- four elements revered by the Tribe.

Themed structural focal points include The Tree of Life which will link the existing Casino of the Earth to the new Casino of the Sky. The Tree of Life represents the creation of the Mohegan Tribe. In the casino's center will be Wombi Rock. The quartz-like rock symbolizes the journey of spirit. Wombi Rock will be large enough to house a lounge and dance floor on three levels.

Inside the 11,600 sq. ft. lobby will be a simulated cedar forest. Running through it and other parts of the expansion is Taughannick Falls, a 60-ft. tall, 150-ft. wide waterfall.
