Neoware Continues to Lead with Key Wins in the Hospitality Industry; Hawk's Cay Resort and Caesars Tahoe Select Neoware Information Appliances

Press Release: Neoware Systems, Inc.
September 7, 2000
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA -- Neoware Systems (Nasdaq: NWRE), a leading supplier of award-winning software and solutions for the emerging information appliance market, yesterday announced that Hawk's Cay Resort has deployed Neoware's information appliances and Remote Manager software throughout their entire 60-acre island resort.

Hawk's Cay Resort joins Caesars Tahoe and several other hospitality industry clients who have deployed Neoware's information appliances for sales and reservations systems, as well as other applications. Ken Lamascus, MIS Manager for Caesars Tahoe Resort states, ``From the casino floor -- where they're used for signature verification for customers to draw credit and pull credit markers -- to our Property Management system -- Casino Show Ticket System -- and even Room Service and Guest Services, Neoware's information appliances have eliminated a lot of administrative headaches for us.''

Utilizing Neoware's information appliances, Hawk's Cay Resort is able to access their sales and reservations system from any location on their property in the Florida Keys. The Florida Keys is not an area conducive to underground or above ground cabling efforts. Since the resort has dozens of buildings, some thousands of feet apart, they needed a solution that would enable them to efficiently access this system from any of these locations, but one that could be easily managed from a single point, without running from building to building.

Hawk's Cay operates Neoware's information appliances with Windows NT, Terminal Server Edition from Microsoft. Instead of installing software on complex personal computers, which had proven in the past to be very costly and labor-intensive both in initial deployment and ongoing administration, they decided to deploy simple-to-manage information appliances without hard drives, fans or other moving parts. Applications are installed on servers -- not the desktop -- simplifying administration significantly.

``We needed a solution that would be easy to deploy, and that we could manage remotely -- one that would also offer great performance,'' said Todd Erickson, director of information technology at Hawk's Cay Resort. ``With Neoware's information appliances, the performance is great, and because they have no moving parts there is very little chance for failure. Neoware also provided remote administration tools, quality customer service, and a solution with zero desktop maintenance. You really can't beat that when you're trying to maintain desktops throughout a 60-acre resort.''

In addition to providing access to their central reservations system, Neoware's information appliances enable the users at Hawk's Cay to send and receive email, access the Internet and deliver sales, conference and other applications to employees throughout the resort. Using Neoware's Remote Manager software Hawk's Cay's system administrators can easily manage and update each information appliance from a central location, without the need to walk from location to location to make changes, saving money not only up-front, but lowering ongoing support costs as well.

Hawk's Cay first deployed the information appliances in the resort's Accounting department, then rolled them out to users throughout their reservations, sales and conference departments. The next phase of deployment is planned to roll out to users in their executive offices and housekeeping areas.

``We are pleased that Hawk's Cay Resort has joined other leaders in the hospitality industry by partnering with Neoware to deploy a high-performance network of information appliances,'' said Michael Kantrowitz, Neoware's president and CEO. ``Our industry leading information appliances and Remote Manager software are an efficient, cost-effective and secure solution that we believe will have wide appeal throughout the hospitality industry.''
