Press Release: MICROS Systems, Inc.
October 26, 2000
COLUMBIA, MD -- MICROS Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCRS), a leading provider of information technology solutions for
the hospitality industry, has announced the first implementation of the OPERA Sales and Catering system at the
prestigious Ritz-Carlton® hotel in Palm Beach, FL. This milestone also marks the commencement of the company-wide
global deployment of OPERA Sales and Catering for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. This newly designed system
provides unprecedented functionality, managing all aspects of a hotel's sales and catering operations, and paves
the way for integration with the other innovative modules within the OPERA Enterprise Solution.
The Oracle®-based, web-enabled OPERA Sales and Catering System is an excellent technical and operational solution
for hotels desiring maximum flexibility and most effective use of information. The OPERA Sales and Catering System
offers a full range of sales and catering management functionality, including comprehensive account and contact
management tools for effective customer relationship management, guestroom and function space management, event
management and a robust reporting module.
The power of the Sales and Catering System is further enhanced with its integration within the rest of the OPERA
Enterprise Solution. The OPERA Sales and Catering and OPERA Property Management Systems share a common database
and therefore can share many functions such as Profile Management, Rate Management, Room and Function Space Inventory,
Account Receivables, Cashiering and much more. The integration provides the sales force with necessary information
and tools that are not available through other, more traditional sales and catering systems. This functionality
enables the sales force to quickly access more information and make educated decisions based on real time data.
``We are impressed with the high level of functionality that the OPERA Sales and Catering System offers,'' stated
Pam Angelucci, Vice President, Information Systems for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. ``Backed by MICROS' global
accounts program, which includes an extensive service and support infrastructure, we were able to find a total
solution to meet our hotels' unique requirements.''
Wolfgang Baere, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach, confirmed that installation and training have
gone smoothly. ``MICROS has provided excellent technical and training services during this start-up period,'' he
said. ``The product was easy to learn for our employees. We feel this system will help The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach
maintain and enhance the superior level of service for which all Ritz-Carlton hotels are known.''
``We are pleased that Ritz-Carlton has selected MICROS,'' stated Bill Poe, Senior Vice President, Hotel Sales Strategies
for MICROS. ``The OPERA Sales and Catering System provides unsurpassed capabilities to manage an extensive sales
and catering operation like that of Ritz-Carlton. With its unique customer relationship management tools, hotels
are able to better utilize their account and contact database to prospect new business and leverage existing relationships.''
