Marriott deal for Regent valued at $130 million

Marriott International Inc., the nation’s biggest hotel chain and owner of the Westin Maui, is buying Waikiki’s Hawaiian Regent in a deal valued at $130 million.
Marriott, which has been on a nationwide hotel-buying spree during the past year, also is negotiating to purchase the 549-room luxury Ritz-Carlton Kapalua on Maui for about $140 million, according to people close to that deal.

Marriott is planning to renovate and then sell both hotels to new owners while retaining long-term management contracts for the properties.
