Canadian Snowbirds Choose Suburban Lodge for Long-Term Accommodations

Press Release
November 17, 2000
ATLANTA, GA -- Suburban Lodges of America, Inc. (Nasdaq:SLAM), the nation's largest economy extended stay hotel franchisor, announced yesterday a partnership with the Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA) to be their exclusive Allied Partner for extended stay accommodations.

The Canadian Snowbird Association is Canada's largest long-term travel association. In the coming months, almost 500,000 Snowbirds will travel south to destinations throughout the U.S. including Florida, Arizona, Texas, California and the Carolinas. CSA members are typically seniors, and 97% of them make one or more annual migrations to the warmer U.S. climates. Snowbirds spend an average of 4.7 months in the U.S. during the winter season, and 91% of them take an additional 7-10 day vacation in the summer or fall. Suburban Lodge is enthusiastically awaiting their arrival, as they have forged a strategic alliance making them CSA's exclusive extended stay hotel supplier.

``Not only are there in excess of 1,000,000 room nights up for grabs on both the southbound and northbound migratory routes, snowbirds are also joined by an average of 4.3 visiting friends and relatives, representing another 430,000 guests in need of lodging each winter season,'' said Jeff Fraser, Vice President Sales & Marketing for the Canadian Snowbird Association. ``This coupled with the fact that North Americans are retiring earlier and a new more transient Snowbird is appearing, means that this new well-traveled consumer will be seeking out extended stay properties like Suburban Lodge to truly discover an area before buying property there,'' Fraser continued.

Suburban Lodge will be the only extended stay lodging chain promoted by the Canadian Snowbird Association. To increase its exposure to CSA members, Suburban Lodge will be advertising in CSA's official publication for members, CSA Newsmagazine. The brand will also increase its exposure through sponsorships of ``Snowbird Extravaganzas,'' North America's largest mature lifestyle events. Suburban Lodge recently sponsored the 140,000-attendee event in Toronto, and will sponsor it again in Florida, California, Arizona and Texas this coming January & February. Suburban Lodge will even be creating a toll-free reservation line exclusively for CSA members. (In the meantime, CSA Members can call 800-951-STAY(7829) for reservations.) They will also offer members and their visiting friends and relatives discounts similar to AAA and AARP, and their properties will be furnished with ``Endorsed by the CSA'' decals.

``We are very excited to be the Canadian Snowbird Association's exclusive supplier of long-term accommodations,'' commented Dan Berman, Suburban Lodge brand President. ``With a complete kitchen in every guestroom and amenities like voice mail, dataports and on-site guest laundry, Suburban Lodge is perfect for the Snowbirds. We are looking forward to serving this important group of guests.''

With over 170 locations open or under development in 26 states and a 97% guest satisfaction rating, Suburban Lodge is the value leader in extended stay lodging. Suburban Lodges owns, operates, manages and franchises Suburban Lodge extended stay hotels, and franchises the owner-friendly GuestHouse International brand of mid-market nightly hotels.
