November 2, 2000
IRVING, TX -- FelCor Lodging Trust Incorporated (NYSE: FCH), one of the nation’s largest hotel real estate investment trusts (REITs), has announced its Embassy Suites hotel-Lofts in New Orleans, La., has been awarded the Associated Builders & Contractors Excellence in Construction Award. The awards competition is a nationwide program to publicly recognize quality and innovation in construction.

Donahue Favret Contractors, Inc. of Mandeville, La., together with Campo Architects, of New Orleans, La., converted a 100-year-old structure, formerly a 1912 sugar cane refinery, into an Embassy Suites hotel with 90 suites. Situated in the heart of New Orleans’ historic Warehouse District, the building not only met the strict specifications of the Embassy Suites brand, but also matched the style and simplistic elegance of the historic area.

“This project is testimony to FelCor’s proven renovation and redevelopment strategy,” according to Thomas J. Corcoran, Jr., FelCor’s President and CEO. “By working with the National Park Service and the Historic Districts Landmarks Commission, and by adherence to strict preservation standards, the building’s original detail elements were utilized in the adapted design.”

In October 1994, FelCor acquired the 257-suite Embassy Suites Hotel on 315 Julia Street in the downtown warehouse district of New Orleans, the Company’s first hotel acquisition since becoming publicly traded earlier that summer. Two years later, in December 1996, FelCor added 32 suites, bringing the Embassy Suites-New Orleanshotel’s room inventory to 259 suites. FelCor began renovation on “The Lofts” which now serves as an annex to the existing Embassy Suites Hotel in December 1997. The historical renovation cost approximately $7 million and was completed in January 1999.

Located on South Peters and Notre Dame in the Historic Warehouse District, the Embassy Suites-Lofts features 10 stories comprised of 90 hotel suites, meeting rooms, a cook-to-order breakfast kitchen, restaurant and bar.

FelCor’s hotel portfolio consists of 187 hotels and nearly 50,000 rooms and suites and is concentrated primarily in the upscale and full-service segments. FelCor is the owner of the largest numbers of Embassy Suites, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and independently owned Doubletree-branded hotels. Other leading hotel brands under which FelCor’s hotels are operated include Sheraton Suites, Sheraton and Westin. FelCor has a current market capitalization of approximately $3.4 billion.
