NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Hampton Inn & Suites yesterday announced the official opening of its new hotel at 1201 Convention
Center Blvd. in New Orleans. The new hotel is the second Hampton Inn & Suites in the New Orleans area and the
17th in Louisiana. The official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is scheduled to commence on May 16, 2000 at 1:30 pm. The
Grand Opening Celebration and Open House will take place from 5:30pm to 9pm. Scheduled to appear and entertain
will be Ms. Charmaine Neville and Mr. Tim Laughlin. Joel's Grande Cuisine will provide all refreshment services.
New Orleans' newest conference services hotel is located in the Historic Arts and Warehouse district. All efforts
have been made to expose and preserve the original materials of the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill Warehouse that dates
back to 1903. This 5-story masonry building with heavy timber interior, columns and beams housed the production
of bags used to ship rice, beans and coffee from the port of New Orleans. Later in the 20th century, the building
was sold to a famous department store chain and became known as the Krauss Warehouse. The overall size and Italianate
tower section which stands 30 feet above the roof section contribute to the historic significance of this property.
This site along with a new addition is now known as the Hampton Inn & Suites - New Orleans Convention Center
Hotel.
