PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -- Sol Kerzner's Caribbean haven was Hollywood for the weekend as stars and guests alike
gathered for the launch of Latin Queen of soul Gloria Estefan's album entitled ``Alma Caribena,'' (``Caribbean
Soul'').
Saturday night (April 29) with Atlantis, Paradise Island's Royal Towers and Mayan Temple as a backdrop, over 6,000
festive people stood marveling the stunning mosaic of waterfalls displayed on stage. With sand beneath their toes
lucky concert guests searched for glimpses of one of the glitzy stars in attendance while they celebrated Gloria
Estefan and Marc Anthony, as they graced the stage at Atlantis, Paradise Island.
The international superstar Gloria Estefan taped her first network television special, GLORIA ESTEFAN, CARIBBEAN
SOUL: THE ATLANTIS CONCERT. The CBS entertainment special featured electrifying performances by the Grammy Award-winning
music sensation, as well as a guest performance by Latin success story Marc Anthony. A special version also was
taped to air in Latin America that included appearances by Celia Cruz and Jose Feliciano. The concert was followed
by a ``Caribbean Soul'' album launch party for Gloria and Emilio Estefan given by Sony Music's Chairman and CEO
Tommy Mottola at Atlantis' exclusive Five Twins restaurant highlighted by appearances by all the special's performers
as well as such celebrities as Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Rosie O'Donnell, Robert DeNiro, Sharon Stone and
Phil Bronstein, the Backstreet Boys, tennis great Boris Becker and his wife, movie producer Dallas Austin and noted
Latin American talk show host, Christina, plus Sony and CBS executives.
``It is an honor to be associated with Gloria Estefan -- she is one of the most popular and influential entertainers
in the world,'' said Jerry Inzerillo, executive vice president, public affairs for Sun International, who was instrumental
in negotiating the concert taping at Atlantis. ``We're truly privileged to have the opportunity of teaming up with
Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Sony and CBS to launch this album and television special.''
In recognition of Estefan's performance at Atlantis, Sun International's chairman and CEO, Sol Kerzner, today presented
the singer with a spectacular painting entitled ``Shadows of the Caribbean'' painted by the highly esteemed Bahamian
artist, Antonius Roberts. Part of a series of three large canvases, one of which was recently purchased for display
at the Nassau International Airport, ``Shadows of the Caribbean'' was created in 1998 to celebrate the soul of
the Caribbean, according to Roberts. The unofficial ``Bahamian Ambassador of Goodwill,'' Roberts has exhibited
throughout Latin America and in the United States and Asia.
``The concert which will air Friday, May 12 (8 - 9 p.m. ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, will showcase Sun
International Atlantis, Paradise Island. The most unique destination in The Caribbean and The Bahamas, Atlantis
includes 2300 luxury accommodations; 38 restaurants, bars and lounges; an entertainment center with a uniquely
designed casino; an impressive collection of luxury boutiques and shops, and extensive meeting and convention facilities.
The marine habitat, which is the largest in the world and second only to Mother Nature, includes The Dig, an elaborate
underground maze of passageways and rooms representing what life may have been like for Atlanteans more than 11,000
years ago. Guests enjoy 11 swimming areas, including amazing water slides hidden in life-sized Mayan ruins and
other gentler waterrides, cascading waterfalls and a seemingly endless stretch of beach that has been called the
most beautiful in the world.
``We are thrilled that Gloria's TV special will also expose a vast viewing audience to the wonders of Atlantis
and the beauty of the Bahamas and the unique culture of its people,'' Inzerillo said. The audience for the taping
of the television special comprised of celebrities, VIPs, Atlantis guests and local residents.
