The Golden Door Spa and Three Resorts Honored

Company Press Release
May 1, 2000
DALLAS, TX -- Four distinctive Wyndham International, Inc. (NYSE:WYN) properties have been honored in Conde Nast Traveler's first-ever ``Readers Pick the Top 40 Spas'' ranking in North America and the Caribbean. Wyndham was recognized in both spa categories: Top 30 Resort Spas and the Top 10 Destination Spas.

The Wyndham Peaks & Golden Door Resort Spa in Telluride, Colo., part of the company's Wyndham Hotels & Resorts brand, received the highest ranking among Wyndham International properties. Two Wyndham Luxury Resorts were also honored -- The Boulders in Carefree, Ariz., and The Golden Door Resort Spa at Las Casitas Village in Las Croabas, Puerto Rico. Wyndham International's The Golden Door Spa in Escondido, Calif., garnered the highest marks in a separate category reserved for destination spas.

``We are honored that out of 40 total spas recognized by readers of Conde Nast Traveler, Wyndham accounted for 10% of the selected properties,'' said Fred J. Kleisner, president and chief executive officer of Wyndham International, Inc. ``The spa rankings underscore our continued commitment to providing guests with finest guest services and travel experiences.''

TOP 30 READERS CHOICE RESORT SPAS

Wyndham Peaks Resort & Golden Door Resort Spa in Telluride, Colo., placed sixth among the Top 30 Readers Choice Resort Spas. The Wyndham Peaks has been listed among Conde Nast Traveler's top 10 spa resorts seven times and received multiple mentions on its Gold List and Top Ski Resort list. In keeping with the original The Golden Door Spa in Escondido, Calif., the Golden Door at The Peaks draws inspiration from the ancient Honjin inns of Japan, where weary travelers sought sanctuary. The spa has 44 treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis, an indoor lap pool connected by a water slide to the lower indoor/outdoor pool, a Cybex weight room, cardiovascular deck, squash and racquetball courts, indoor climbing wall, reading and television lounge, and a full-service salon.

The Boulders achieved the position of 17th among the Top 30 Readers Choice Resort Spas. Conde Nast has also honored The Boulders twice as one of the ``Top North American Resorts.'' Situated on 1,300 acres in the Sonoran Desert foothills of Carefree, Ariz., its 160 guest casitas feature hand-hewn, wood-beamed ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces. The Sonoran Resort Spa at The Boulders captures the serenity that defines the surrounding desert. The spa's design is also inspired by its desert environment. The entryway, with its rich, earthy feel, resembles a Native American kiva, a recessed circle that serves as a center of welcome and gathering.

Golden Door Resort Spa at Las Casitas Village was voted 26th in the survey's Top 30 Resort Spa category. In 1998, Wyndham opened the first resort location of the Golden Door Spa at Las Casitas Village, an exclusive enclave of 90 guest casitas that is part of the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort & Country Club. Perched on a stunning, 300-foot bluff overlooking the water and surrounding rainforest, the resort is located in the charming fishing village of Las Croabas, on Puerto Rico's northeast coast. The Golden Door Spa at Las Casitas Village incorporates a variety of techniques and ingredients -- from as far away as Europe and the Far East to the neighboring El Yunque rainforest - then integrates them in a tranquil paradise setting to further heighten the restoration process.

TOP 10 READERS CHOICE DESTINATION SPAS

The Golden Door Spa in Escondido, Calif., came in first among the Top 10 Destination Spas. The spa, which is world-renowned as the first-ever destination spa, noted for luxurious surroundings and dedicated to lavish individual service, has a history of high grades in various publications. ``The Door,'' as it is known to aficionados, has been rated the No. 1 Spa in America by Zagat U.S. Hotel Resort and Spa Guide every year since their survey began in 1988. According to Palm Springs Life magazine, the Golden Door ``...is the international standard from which all spas are measured.'' Town and Country magazine praised it as ``...everything everyone has always said it is -- and much, much more.''
