Company Press Release: Celebrity Cruises
June 6, 2000
MIAMI, FL -- Celebrity Cruises yesterday announced that Mrs. Robyn Roux, wife of Celebrity Cruises' longtime culinary
architect and advisor, Master Chef Michel Roux, has been named godmother of Celebrity's newest ship, ``Millennium.''
As godmother, Mrs. Roux will officially give the ship its name during naming ceremonies in Southampton, England
on June 15. Following its naming, ``Millennium'' will sail to Amsterdam for its June 17 maiden voyage. ``Millennium''
is the first of four state-of-the-art Millennium-class ships to be brought into service by Celebrity by mid-2002.
``We are very proud to have such a talented and versatile woman be godmother to 'Millennium,''' said Rick Sasso,
president of Celebrity Cruises. ``As 'Millennium's' godmother, Mrs. Roux helps us reemphasize Celebrity's continuing
commitment to culinary excellence. She embodies the spirit, elegance and grace that ''Millennium`` will bring to
our fleet and our guests.''
Mrs. Roux's love of food brought her into the catering industry in 1978. After running a successful catering business
in Melbourne, Australia, she became a chef at the popular south Melbourne restaurant, Donlevy's. She then moved
to Sydney to manage one of that city's top restaurants, Le Cafe. While on sabbatical from that position, she met
Michel Roux in 1983. The couple married in 1984. Mrs. Roux has been intricately involved in her husband's activities
ever since, including his well-known business, The Waterside Inn, near London.
From June through October, ``Millennium'' will sail 10 to 14-night cruises in Europe. It will visit the eastern
and western Mediterranean, Western Europe, Russia, and the Baltic. In November, the ship will reposition and depart
from Fort Lauderdale on alternating seven-night cruises to the eastern and western Caribbean.
Maintaining Celebrity Cruises' trend-setting tradition, ``Millennium'' will offer a number of other new features
and amenities, several of them industry firsts:
Celebrity Cruises has the youngest fleet of any major cruise line. The 1,950-guest ``Millennium'' joins the
fleet in June. Infinity sets sail in February 2001, and two additional vessels will join the fleet by 2002. Celebrity
Cruises is the highest-rated premium cruise line in the industry. For additional information, visit the company's
