Two Portland Embassy Suites Hotels Are Among the Chain's Top 10 Performers
Company Press Release
June 29, 2000
PORTLAND, OR -- Embassy Suites® Hotels, the upscale, all-suites hotel chain of more than 150 hotels across
the United States, yesterday announced that the Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Downtown, in the historic Multnomah,
will receive the company's first-place designation among its Pinnacle Award winners this year for top-performing
hotels.
The award will be presented Thursday, June 29, in a luncheon ceremony at the hotel by senior executives from the
Embassy Suites Hotels corporate office, who will personally congratulate the staff.
The Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Downtown was selected as the chain's top-performing hotel because it received
the highest ranking for quality, guest satisfaction and business performance among more than 150 Embassy Suites
hotels nationwide.
Two-thirds of the scoring was related to actual customer feedback measured through guest satisfaction surveys on
the hotel, as well as product quality and service scores measured quarterly by the company. The remaining one-third
criteria were based on the hotel's overall financial performance in 1999.
``We are thrilled to receive Embassy Suites Hotels' highest honor this year,'' said John Steinbach, general manager
for Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Downtown.
``Our staff is collectively focused on providing each guest with the upscale, high-quality experience that is associated
with Embassy Suites Hotels, especially at a historic property like our own. We were in the top five last year,
and this award is a testament to the hard work and effort we have put forth to put us in first place.''
The Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Downtown is located at 319 S.W. Pine, in the restoration of the historic Multnomah
Hotel, built in 1912. It is one of Embassy's most unique properties not only because of its historic charm but
because it includes more services and amenities than the standard Embassy Suites Hotel.
For example, the 276-suite hotel contains its own art gallery, day spa and beauty salon, retail shops, covered
parking garage, Hertz Rental Car office, deli, florist, grand ballrooms with fireplaces, a Business Center, Royal
and Presidential Suites, and one of Portland's top restaurants, The Portland Steak & Chop House.
Embassy Suites Portland-Airport Wins in Top 10
Portland is also home to another Pinnacle Winner this year: the Embassy Suites Portland-Airport, which placed among
the chain's top 10 performers in 1999 and will receive its Pinnacle Award at a luncheon ceremony today at the hotel.
``Placing in the top 10 is an honor that shows Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Airport is committed to exceed guest
expectations time and time again,'' said hotel General Manager Jim Dodson. ``Every member of our staff played a
role in helping us achieve higher guest satisfaction ratings than those of our competitors and our brand.''
Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Airport is located at 7900 82nd St., at the entrance to the Portland International
Airport. The 251-suite hotel contains 8,700 square feet of meeting space, and is 12 minutes from downtown and close
to Columbia River Recreation and the Multnomah Dog Track.
Overview
Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Downtown and the Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Airport contain guest amenities and
services consistent with the upscale Embassy Suites Hotels chain. Each property's hotel rooms are spacious two-room
suites that include a separate living area with sofa bed and desk, private bedroom and bath, two televisions, and
a wet bar with refrigerator and microwave oven.
In addition, each hotel offers an indoor pool, free cooked-to- order breakfast each morning and a complimentary
two-hour manager's reception each evening.
``In a year of very stiff competition, this year's Pinnacle Award winners consistently outperformed national and
local competitors, as well as hotels within the Embassy Suites Hotels chain,'' said Mark Snyder, senior vice president
of brand management, Embassy Suites Hotels, who is in Portland this week to present the awards.
``Each Portland hotel has further distinguished itself from its competitors through better understanding its customers
and exceeding their expectations.''
