THE LAST-minute details are being ironed out over Bermuda’s newest resort, the Daniel’s Head Village, which is quietly opening on Tuesday.

Four tents out of 20 available are booked and, according to a spokeswoman, reservations for the rest of the season are going well.

“Bookings have been quite good. They have been taken gradually, but there seems to be a lot of interest.”

Construction, however, is continuing at Daniel’s Head with some 35 tents still to come on line.

Guests — who have travelled from Texas, San Francisco and New Hampshire — have been made fully aware of the situation, she confirmed.

“But they all still wanted to come. The staff are all dedicated to make sure these first guests have a really good time.”
As a thank you for the guests’ inconvenience, the eco-resort has thrown in free airport taxis as well as free dinners. A beach café will be open, however, and other facilities including the pool, tennis courts, main dining room and reservations area will open gradually over the coming months, with a final deadline set of October 1.

“Soft or gradual openings are traditional within the hospitality industry,” she said.

She assured the public that the tents have been designed to handle hurricane winds, of up to 110 miles per hour. But the village does have a plan in place, should Bermuda be taking a hurricane hit.

The tents, which all have ocean views, range in price between $135 a night to $250, for August until November and down to $115 to $225 until March.
