New Hotel Furthers Bass Hotels & Resorts' Prominence in Central American First Class Hotel Market
Company Press Release
July 27, 2000
MIAMI, FL -- Bass Hotels & Resorts (BHR) (LON:BAS) (NYSE:BAS; ADRs) yesterday announced the opening of the
Inter-Continental Metro Centro Managua. The announcement was made by Thomas Arasi, President, Bass Hotels &
Resorts, The Americas, and Ricardo Poma, Chairman of El-Salvador based Grupo Poma.
The property is the sixth Inter-Continental stemming from a commercial agreement between Bass Hotels & Resorts
and Poma's hotel operating division, Grupo Real.
The 157-room, eight-story property is located five miles from Managua's International Airport, within the city's
thriving new business and financial district.
It is directly across from Metro Centro, a multi-million dollar mixed-use retail and entertainment complex, renowned
as one of the largest and most successful real estate projects in Central America.
The Inter-Continental Metro Centro is BHR's second Inter-Continental in Managua. The Hotel Inter-Continental Managua,
one of the city's landmark properties, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. BHR counts twelve total properties
in Central America, which includes hotels under the Inter-Continental, Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza flags.
The new hotel includes six Junior Suites, 20 Business Rooms and one Presidential Suite, as well as eight meeting
rooms accommodating 10 to 450 guests.
The hotel also features two Club Inter-Continental Floors with a private concierge lounge and butler service, international
restaurant and bar, outdoor pool, fitness center and a variety of shops.
The property is equipped with the latest technology, including voice mail and in-room computer access capabilities.
``The Metro Centro area of Managua has rapidly evolved into one of Central America's key financial centers,'' said
Arasi. ``It clearly merited a first-class property such as an Inter-Continental. We view it as another step towards
furthering Bass Hotels & Resorts' position as the leading multi-branded hotel company in the Central America
region.''
``The region's anticipation of the opening of this property is an example of the growing need for first-class accommodations
within the new, evolving business centers of Central America,'' said Poma. ``It will clearly be a centerpiece of
the area.''
``Like many major capitals,'' added Alvaro Diago, Area President, Latin America, Bass Hotels & Resorts, ``Managua
has more than one business and financial center. The Inter-Continental Metro Centro is clearly positioned as the
definitive first-class property of this booming area, and serves as example of BHR's strategy to further expand
the Inter-Continental brand in key business destinations.''
The property was built by Lacayo Faillos. The architects are Grupo Roble International. The interior design was
supervised by the Morrison Seifert Murphy Company.
