Company Press Release: Mirage Resorts
February 2, 2000
LAS VEGAS, NV -- Today executives from AAA presented Treasure Island at The Mirage with the coveted Four Diamond
Award in recognition of the property's elegant and luxurious resort experience.
More than $65 million was invested during the past two years to convert Treasure Island into a destination deserving
of the Four Diamond rating. To be recognized as a AAA Four Diamond resort, properties are evaluated on more than
30 criteria both inside and outside the property. Four Diamond resorts must have amenities such as professionally
planned and manicured landscaping, public areas which are highlighted by marble or hardwood floors and a comfortable
conversational area within the private rooms.
``Elegance and luxury in every detail, from the redesigned lobby to our new Penthouse Suites, make the Treasure
Island experience one of sophistication,'' said Bill McBeath, president of Treasure Island. ``The new look is consistent
with the high standards established in each of the Mirage Resorts properties, yet still maintains an adventurous
atmosphere.''
This establishes Las Vegas as the United States city with the highest number of Four Diamond rooms. By current
count, Las Vegas, with 17,205 rooms overtakes Chicago, with 15,738 rooms.
This ranking is validation of Las Vegas' evolution into one of the world's premier luxury vacation destinations.
The emergence of lavish resorts, such as Mirage Resorts' crown jewel Bellagio, has dispelled Las Vegas' long- standing
label as merely a gambling mecca, transforming it into a city of choice for sophisticated travelers.
``Treasure Island's designation as a Four Diamond property epitomizes the changes that are taking place in Las
Vegas,'' said Manuel J. Cortez, president and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors
Authority (LVCVA). ``Las Vegas continues to offer visitors an unparalleled array of attractions and amenities,
including world class hotel resorts unlike any others in the world.''
From the moment Treasure Island guests walk through the door, the new look is apparent everywhere. A redesigned
lobby and front-desk area, highlighted by sweeping panoramic views of the tropical pool area, set the tone for
an upscale experience. The resort's 2,665 guestrooms and 220 suites have been redesigned to offer an unrivaled
level of elegance. In addition to the newly designed rooms, 12 lavish two-bedroom Penthouse Suites and two expansive
Hospitality Suites have been added. The Hideaway Lounge provides an intimate getaway for those looking for the
perfect place to unwind, while Francesco's Italian restaurant continues the Mirage Resorts tradition of offering
the finest in gourmet dining.
For those looking to take in one of Las Vegas' renowned shows, Treasure Island invites visitors to experience ``Mystere,''
a unique theatrical extravaganza by the world famous performance troupe Cirque du Soleil.
