Things are getting fishy at Mandalay Bay. The hotel-casino is building a 1 million-gallon aquarium as part of a "new entertainment venue."

Sources at the hotel say the huge aquarium will have a walk-through Plexiglas tunnel, like Sea World in Southern California, allowing guests to be surrounded by the tank as they move along. The tunnel is expected to be about 20 feet long and will lead to a ship-shaped viewing area.

Like the aquarium in the resort's lobby, the new tank will be filled with colorful tropical fish and sea plants. Unlike the lobby, the new aquarium will hold about 30 lemon and tiger sharks, some nearly 10 feet long. They are already in holding tanks on the property.

The separate building will reportedly hold more than a dozen exhibits, including a crocodile area.

Sarah Ralston, corporate director of public relations for Mandalay Bay Resorts, said the attraction, which is under construction, should be completed this summer.

Klai-Juba Architects was hired for the project and Robert White is the designer.
