Schweitzer to build 49-Unit Condominium Project

Press Release: Schweitzer Development Company

February 21, 2000
SANDPOINT, Idaho, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Schweitzer Development Company, a subsidiary of Seattle based Harbor Properties and Resorts, has announced plans for White Pine Lodge, a 49-unit condominium project in the base area. Construction will begin on the project in May 2000 and be completed in February 2001.

"This is our first new, ground up development project since Harbor bought the mountain last year," says Jay Lukan, Vice President of Real Estate for Schweitzer Mountain. "The success of the Selkirk Lodge, a renovation of an 82-room hotel built in 1990 that sold 30 of 41 units in only three hours, gives us wonderful incentive. We know that there is pent up demand for condominiums here at Schweitzer."

White Pine Lodge will be built directly east of the Selkirk Lodge and is a critical step in the development of the new Schweitzer Village. "Developing the village at Schweitzer is essential to Harbor's 10 year vision for the mountain," says Lukan. "By adding new homes, retail space, and a new quad chair this year, we think Schweitzer will quickly grow into one of the premiere regional resorts in the country."

White Pine Lodge's 49 condominiums will be a combination of one and two bedroom homes priced between $200,000-$350,000. It will feature ground floor retail, underground parking, and a fitness center with a pool. "This lodge is a prototype for future projects in Schweitzer Village. It sits in the best ski-in/ski-out location on the mountain and will be a landmark," says Lukan.

Harbor Resorts, which bought Schweitzer in December 1998, has launched an ambitious capital improvement plan that included over $8 million in improvements last year alone. "Schweitzer is a spectacular mountain, it gets great snow and has more than 2,000 skiable acres," says Ron Cook, Executive Vice-President of Harbor Resorts.

Preliminary interest in White Pine Lodge has already been strong and Schweitzer will begin taking reservations next week from interested buyers to attend a Preferred Buyers Sales Event in April. "The reservation system allows us to prioritize and give interested buyers an opportunity to attend the sales event before sales are opened up to the public," says Stephen Fina, Director of Marketing for Harbor Resorts. In November 1999, Schweitzer held a similar sales event for the Selkirk Lodge, which is now completely sold out.

Harbor Resorts is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harbor Properties, Inc. It currently owns and operates Stevens Pass and Mission Ridge ski areas. Harbor Properties, Inc. is a full service real estate firm that owns, manages and develops a broad spectrum of real estate types including office, retail, multifamily residential and resort properties. Founded in 1972, the company is currently developing the Harbor Steps neighborhood and several properties in the Belltown area of Downtown Seattle.
