Company Press Release: Baymont Inns & Suites
February 10, 2000
MILWAUKEE, WI -- As the nation's unemployment rate continues to decline and employee turnover increases, more employers
are striving to find unique ways to retain their employees. Milwaukee based hotel chain, Baymont Inns & Suites
is launching an employee incentive program designed to focus on bringing fun to the workplace, and will kick off
the program by giving employees the chance to be a millionaire.
Greg Marcus, acting Chief Operating Officer, Baymont Inns & Suites, is launching the Baymont ``Have Fun At
Work'' employee program this week by purchasing a total of 4000 lottery tickets for all Baymont employees. In order
to increase their chance of winning this week's *$38 million jackpot, Marcus will purchase the 4000 Powerball lottery
tickets at one of the Midwest's luckiest lottery stores -- Ma & Pa Convenience Store in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
on February 10. The tickets will be distributed in employee paychecks at Baymont Inns & Suites locations across
the United States. To ensure that a Baymont employee wins something big during this program launch - all employee
names will be put into a raffle and one employee will win a 25- inch color TV set.
``The number one challenge facing the hotel industry today is employee retention,'' said Greg Marcus. ``We have
extraordinary employees at Baymont who work very hard each day. Our number one goal is to provide an enjoyable
work environment and keep them with us.''
The Baymont ``Have Fun At Work'' program encourages employees to plan fun, unique activities throughout the year
that inspire enjoyment and increase job satisfaction. The program includes monthly social functions such as pizza
parties and ice cream socials as well as larger-scale quarterly events like sports outings or company picnics.
Each hotel can determine what type of event they would like to plan, depending on what their staff enjoys the most.
``Being productive does not mean you're not having fun,'' said Marcus. ``This program is designed to provide employees
with additional enjoyable aspects of doing their job. It is really an extension to what many general managers already
do. We're taking the most successful aspects of our system and turning them into an operational program that will
foster a unique company culture at Baymont.''
