WinterHaven Hotel Reopens February 17: 71-Room Restored Art Deco Gem on South Beach

Company Press Release: The WinterHaven Hotel

February 8, 2000
MIAMI BEACH, FL -- The newly renovated WinterHaven Hotel, designed by preeminent Art Deco architect Albert Anis and located in the historic Art Deco district of South Beach, Miami, reopens on February 17 after a one-year, $2.5 million restoration.

It is the second South Beach hotel to debut under the banner of The Coral Collection of Fine Hotels and Resorts. Its sister hotel, the Essex House, reopened in 1998 and has already won acclaim for its expert restoration and the new service standards being introduced to South Beach by The Coral Collection.

The 71-room boutique hotel, located on the quiet corner of 14th Street and Ocean Drive, is an oasis of calm just a short walk from the center of South Beach's pulsing nightlife scene.

When the WinterHaven opened in 1939 it was advertised as an ``ultra modern'' hotel with ``large outside rooms,'' ``a skytop solarium,'' ``spacious lobby and mezzanine,'' ``large veranda overlooking the ocean,'' and ``$1 per night'' rates. The meticulous restoration has preserved everything except the $1 per night rates. Grand opening rates start at $159 through April 30, 2000, subject to availability. Rates May 1 through October 30 range from $129 for a city view to $479 for a two-bedroom oceanfront suite.

The WinterHaven Hotel is located at 1400 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, Fla. 33139.
