Company Press Release: Hilton Hotels Corporation
February 7, 2000
BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- According to a Hilton random telephone survey of frequent travelers, nearly six out of 10
(57 percent) don't think about planning for Valentine's Day when scheduling a business trip that revolves around
February 14. Despite their forgetfulness in planning ahead for Valentine's Day, additional Hilton survey questions
show that romance is alive and well among road warriors.
In fact, almost eight out of 10 of the male and female survey respondents (76 percent and 78 percent) say they
actually like celebrating Valentine's Day. In the survey, the top choice for a Valentine's Day gift above candy,
jewelry and even flowers is a getaway trip. Three times as many respondents (57 percent vs. 17 percent) chose ``a
weekend getaway'' over the second most popular selection, flowers.
Hilton is providing a romantic solution to road warriors traveling for business around Valentine's Day. The Hilton
Romance Package is available year-round, and offers a special one-night package of premiums and extra services
at nearly 300 participating Hilton hotels in the U.S. and Canada.
This special package includes upgraded accommodations for two (with early check-in available upon request), and
champagne (where state law allows) or sparkling cider in their room upon arrival. Couples also receive a full complimentary
American breakfast in bed or at one of the hotel's restaurants. Airport hotel guests have an option of breakfast
for two or to buy one dinner and receive the second dinner of equal or lesser value for free (alcoholic beverages
not included).
Where available, free access to the hotel-operated health club also is included. Late check-out also is available
on a request basis, so guests can take their time and enjoy the romantic getaway.
``As someone who has spent a few Valentine's Days away on business trips, the year-round Hilton Romance Package
is the ideal Valentine's day gift solution,'' said Joanie Flynn, director of leisure and resort marketing at Hilton.
``The Romance Package is a convenient, yet special, way to spend some romantic time with a surprised loved one
at the tail-end of a business trip or anytime throughout the year.''
Interestingly, women surveyed were slightly less concerned about Valentine's Day than men (58 percent vs. 56 percent).
However, Hilton has covered all the bases once again to help loved ones re-ignite the romantic flame with their
sweetheart this Valentine's Day. Hilton Hotels Corporation and 1-800-FLOWERS.COM(SM), Inc. have teamed up for a
special internet promotion, making it easier to shower loved ones with that special gift.
By accessing the Hilton Romance Package website at www.hilton.com/romance and clicking on the 1-800-FLOWERS.COM
promotion, visitors can receive a special discount on flowers, candies, and other special items. Purchasing a romantic
gift has never been easier, and while on-line, romantics can take advantage of sending a free electronic Valentine's
Day greeting card to show how much they care.
``What could be easier for those 57% of road warriors that travel on Valentine's Day,'' said Flynn. ``By visiting
our online Hilton Romance Package website, now they can plan two special surprises -- even if they have to be miles
away!''
The Hilton Romance Package is subject to availability and may vary from location to location. For information and
reservations, travelers are encouraged to visit www.hilton.com/romance, call their professional travel agent, or
