Press Release: Euromic
December 6, 2000
CHICAGO, IL -- Euromic, a $100 million consortium of leading destination management companies, located in 27 countries
in Europe and the Mediterranean, announced J.J. Gubbins as its first Chief Executive Officer, a hospitality-industry
veteran from the Chicago area.
Gubbins, a Chicago resident, spent 25 years with ITT Sheraton, now a Division of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide,
Inc. As a corporate Vice President and Director of Global Incentive Sales, Gubbins had the opportunity to maximize
one of his greatest strengths, which is developing and maintaining long term relationships with major clients in
the incentive industry spanning North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim.
Marc Dans, Euromic Chairman and owner of Brussels International Travel Service, said Gubbins' experience in building
customer relationships within the incentive industry was among the top reasons for his selection as the first CEO
of Euromic.
``Our intent is to take bold steps marketing Euromic in the new millennium, which is precisely the reason we chose
J.J.,'' Dans said. ``The new Euromic, with J.J. at its helm, will blend the mutuality of the association with all
the commercial potential of a new company.''
Gubbins, who recently began his duties as CEO, has a clear vision for the company.
``My first charge will be to re-energize the organization and develop new partnerships that significantly expand
the reach Euromic has developed over 25 years,'' Gubbins said. ``I understand what the meeting and incentive planner
requires. To put it simply, it is a matter of approaching the marketplace with a customer's point of view.''
While Euromic's marketing offices are located in Chicago and Brussels, its member companies span 27 countries,
providing meeting and incentive planners with the best access in Europe and the Mediterranean. Its members are
located in countries such as: Austria, Egypt, Great Britain, Israel, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Finland, Greece,
Italy, Poland, Sweden, Cyprus, France, Hungary, Jordan, Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Malta,
Russia, and Turkey. Their web site is www.euromic.com .
Gubbins served as President of the Society of Travel Executives (SITE) and is in his 12th year as a SITE Foundation
Trustee. He was recognized for his contributions to the Incentive Travel Industry through the honor of the EIBTM-
ITME Fellowship Award for Significant Contributions to the Incentive Industry, given annually in Geneva, Switzerland
and the SITE President's Award for Creative Contributions to the Incentive Industry.
He has been a guest lecturer at the SITE University, Meeting Planners International, the Incentive Travel &
Meetings Exposition, the Canadian Incentive Symposium and the International Conference & Congress' Association
(ICCA).
Gubbins will be headquartered in Chicago and his office can be reached at 312-845-9734.
