And the Winner Is ... 'Dolly's Splash Country'

Dolly Parton Announces Waterpark Name

Press Release: Dollywood
December 5, 2000
PIGEON FORGE, TN -- After ``swimming'' through more than 16,000 entries, Dolly Parton announced yesterday that ``Dolly's Splash Country'' will be the name given to her new Waterpark. Nearly four months have passed since Dolly announced the ``Name the Waterpark'' contest during a groundbreaking ceremony for her second East Tennessee themed park scheduled to open May 19, 2001.

John Torres of Ronkonkoma, New York, is the winner of the contest. Torres entered the contest while visiting Dollywood this summer. His entry was chosen by a random drawing of the entries with the winning name. He and his family will be awarded a prize package which includes a canoe signed by Dolly, a ``splash party'' for 10, and VIP status for a photo session with Dolly at the Waterpark's Grand Opening.

``Folks will have all kinds of fun splashing around in the water rides and attractions at the new park, and it's set in the beautiful countryside of the Smoky Mountains, so I think it's a perfect name,'' says Dolly. Dolly's Splash Country is located near Dollywood off Middle Creek Road in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Each park has its own gated entry and parking area. Tickets may be purchased for each park individually, or combination passes are also available.

Key attractions for Dolly's Splash Country include a multi-person family mountain raft ride, a children's activity area, a lazy river, single and double tube slides, a 25,000 square-foot wave pool, and a free fall water slide. The new Waterpark will also offer food and beverage areas, a changing facility, and plentiful benches and shady areas.

Representing a $20 million investment by the Dollywood Company, Dolly's Splash Country will cover nearly 25 acres upon completion and will be unlike any other recreational park of its kind because of its unique location in the Smokies, the scenic beauty of the East Tennessee area, Dollywood's commitment to well-themed attractions, and Dolly's ownership. It will allow visitors who don't plan or have time to visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park a chance to experience some of its natural fun and beauty through unique water attractions.
