LOS ANGELES, Nov 7 (Reuters) - In a sign of Las Vegas' growing prominence as a global gambling mecca, a number
of foreign companies have placed major bets there in recent months, wagering billions of investment dollars against
the prospect of big payoffs ahead.
Japanese gaming equipment maker Aruze Corp. became the newest player to arrive at the Vegas table, announcing on
Monday that it would spend $260 million in a partnership with casino mogul Steve Wynn to develop a resort and casino
on the site of the former Desert Inn along the famed Las Vegas Strip.
