ORLANDO -- Walt Disney Co. is accused in a lawsuit of defrauding the government in the lease and eventual purchase
by the U.S. Army of a Disney World hotel used as a resort for military personnel.
The suit was filed by two Atlanta-area businessmen who tried unsuccessfully to lease another Orlando hotel to the
Army. It focuses on transactions dating back to 1993 involving the 289-room Disney Inn, now known as the Shades
of Green Hotel.
The hotel, which first struggled financially after the Army began managing it in 1994, was bought by the Army for
an estimated $43 million in 1996 and now is profitable.
