Press Release
December 19, 2000
NASHVILLE, TN -- Gaylord Entertainment Company (NYSE:GET) has sold its Opryland KOA Kampground to Kampgrounds of
America Inc. of Billings, Mont. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The Opryland KOA Kampground, a 435-site facility, was acquired by Gaylord Entertainment in 1995 and operated as
one of the largest in the KOA franchise system. KOA has more than 500 franchised campgrounds in the U.S. and abroad.
``We are involved in a strategic review of all Gaylord Entertainment operations and are focusing on our core business
interests. We determined that the campground industry is not one toward which we wanted to direct our efforts in
the future. The campground is one of the best in the KOA system, and we are glad that KOA Inc. itself chose to
purchase it,'' said Dennis J. Sullivan, president and chief executive officer of Gaylord Entertainment.
Operation of the Opryland KOA Kampground will continue without interruption. The campground employs nine people,
eight of whom will continue with the business. The ninth stayed with Gaylord Entertainment.
``The Nashville Kampground has long been one of the KOA system's largest and most successful operations and will
fit nicely with our existing 11 resort Kampgrounds,'' said Shane Ott, vice president of company-owned properties,
Kampgrounds of America Inc.
The facility is located along the Cumberland River approximately one mile from the Grand Ole Opry House, Opry Mills
and the Opryland Hotel.
Gaylord Entertainment is a diversified entertainment company whose businesses operate in two groups: hospitality
and attractions, and music, media and entertainment. It is headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., and its stock is
traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: GET).
