Press Release: Aviawest
December 1, 2006
VICTORIA, BC (PRWEB) -- The transition that developers and marketers are referring to as "Web 2.0" is
about taking technology off the desktop, and delivering content to the consumer through a myriad of web based applications.
Google is at the forefront of this innovation with its Google Earth platform.
Aviawest believes that by leveraging Web 2.0 platforms such as Google Earth, it will bring attention to its current
projects and initiatives on an international level.
The Parkside model was built using SketchUp, a CAD (Computer Assisted Design) program developed by Google for use
with Google Earth. Using SketchUp, developers can build virtual representations of their properties and share them
with members of the Google Earth community from all over the world.
The model is currently available for viewing from the Parkside Victoria Resort & Spa website. You can download
the files and instructions by visiting http://www.parksidevictoria.com/google-earth-maps.shtml
Steve Roper, Director of Marketing for Aviawest, is enthusiastic about the move. "Google is a company which
is leading Internet evolution in ways which we at Aviawest admire and support.
"Our Google Earth/SketchUp model allows us to communicate our development vision in 3-D in a way that mirrors
the way people imagine the world. People can really see what the building will look like in context. It's like
being able to pick up a real model, in miniature, and turn it in your hand; looking at it from all perspectives
and seeing how it fits into its surroundings."
The Aviawest team is setting some benchmarks within the developers community by being among the first Canadians
to showcase its properties in such a unique way.
"With a virtual model of our Parkside project on Google Earth," continues Roper, "we can communicate
our vision not just to the customer in our sales office but to anyone on the planet. Our market reach has just
been extended to the 100 million people who have the free Google Earth software on their computer and the thousands
more who are downloading it every day.
"Aviawest is one of the first developers in Canada to embrace the technology and utilize SketchUp as a sales
and marketing tool."
Parkside Victoria is only the beginning of Aviawest's online development; it plans to build virtual models of its
flagship property in Parksville, Pacific Shores Resort & Spa and its Boutique Hotel in Victoria, the Rosewood
Victoria Inn.
