Press Release: Tamarack Resort
May 31, 2006
DONNELLY, ID -- Tamarack Resort May 17 issued its first full year report covering the period from May 1, 2005 until
April 30, 2006, which will be known as Fiscal Year 2006. This report sets the standard by which the resort intends
to communicate with the community now and in the future.
Revenue: For the FY2006, Tamarack posted revenue of $8.4 million for Operations, $2.4 million for the non-profit
Municipal Association, and $89 million for Real Estate sales – a total contribution to the economy of $99.8 million.
The seasonal split for Operations was $2.9 million for summer (May-Oct) and $5.5 million for winter (Nov-April),
a strong contribution during the two periods. Winter revenue increased by 96 percent over the previous year ($2.8
million.) Operations includes recreation, lodging, restaurants, resort retail, and leases from independent operators.
Employment: During FY2006, employment by Tamarack in Valley County ranged from 200 workers during the shoulder
season to 250 and 350 at the peaks of summer and winter, respectively. This makes Tamarack the number one private
employer in the county. In addition, Tamarack employs 38 in Boise.
Lodging: To date, Valley County has issued 127 certificates of occupancy to homeowners at the resort. The county
has issued 32 certificates of occupancy to Tamarack for commercial operations and hotel rooms. Through Tamarack’s
Property Management Program, 94 lodging units are available for rent, making the resort a major lodging operator
in Valley County.
“We are pleased with the growth winter to winter and our overall contribution to the Valley County economy during
a first full year,” said Jean-Pierre Boespflug, Tamarack CEO. “However, with growth come growing pains. Tamarack
is constantly working in partnership with our local government to ease the pains of growth and ensure the positive
aspects of economic development are shared.”
Commitment to Valley County: The resort is honoring its commitments towards the Capital Contribution Agreement,
negotiated between Tamarack and the Valley County Commissioners in 2001.
Since the agreement was signed, Tamarack has contributed more than $3.8 million as follows:
$150,000 after Tamarack’s Planned Unit Development and Conditional Use Permit were issued.
$50,000 for the preliminary engineering and corridor study for the Tamarack corridor.
$1.1 million for the first phase of reconstruction of West Mountain Road now completed. An additional $1.1 million is planned for the second phase this summer.
$350,000 to the Valley County General Fund
$360,000 to the McCall-Donnelly School District for additional students
$200,000 to the Cascade School District for additional students
$200,000 school room donated for the creation of the Tamarack Sport and Education Foundation academy. Fifty percent of the academy curriculum is dedicated to snow sports and 50 percent to academic work. The academy enrolled ten students this year.
$200,000 to the Donnelly Fire Department: $140,000 fire truck, $60,000 cash
$800,000 for the development of 48 affordable housing units – a project totaling $7.8 million at completion. Prior to completion of this program, Tamarack administers 25 units of housing.
$290,000 for regional transportation. In coordination with McCall Transit, Tamarack operates free bus service from McCall, Cascade, and Donnelly.
$307,000 for building permits for resort-built residential and commercial properties.
Philanthropy: Tamarack is also a strong contributor to area non-profits, contributing more than $250,000 in FY2006
to organizations which enhance recreation, provide educational opportunities, and support cultural programming.
“We are proud of our contributions,” said Scott Turlington, Director of External Affairs. “We also realize that
better infrastructure in the area of schools, roads and emergency services are necessary to continue responsible
growth. We clearly need to work as a community to identify better funding sources to meet these needs.”
