Condo Advocacy Group Applauds Delay in Approval of Plans for St. Regis Bal Harbour Project

Press Release: Clean Condos
December 23, 2005
MIAMI, FL -- Clean Condos applauded the postponement of a final ruling on the St. Regis Bal Harbour project. The hearing, originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 20th, was to review plans by The Related Group of Florida and Starwood Hotels for three towers on Collins Avenue. This postponement was reported just days after the Miami Herald reported that a crane situated at 50 Biscayne Bay, the site of another Related Group development, crashed onto the tracks of the downtown Metromover system, shutting down service for two days.

Clean Condos has raised issues with both the community and village officials regarding the development. "Given the proximity of this project to private property, public shoreline, and a busy thoroughfare, this project should not be approved until the Related Group addresses the impact of its development on the community," said Hiram Ruiz, spokesman for Clean Condos.

Specifically, Clean Condos is asking the Related Group to address:

    * How Related intends to safeguard neighboring property during the
construction process, in light of past reported incidents, including
falling debris at the Murano in South Beach.

    * Whether Related was responsible for the reported crane incident at the
      Metromover.

    * What plans Related has to reconfigure the beach walkway

    * How Related plans to compensate the Village for the shortfall in public
recreational space caused by this project

    * What the wind effects of three large oceanfront towers would be on the
surrounding area, especially during a hurricane

The next village meeting to discuss approval of this project is tentatively scheduled for January 5, 2006.
