Tamarack to Build West Mountain Road to Modern Standard

Press Release: Tamarack Resort
August 16, 2005
DONNELLY, ID -- Tamarack Resort has reached an agreement with the Valley County Commission to immediately begin building West Mountain Road from the Tamarack Falls Store to the resort entrance to modern roadway standard.

Construction of the road along Lake Cascade will begin the end of this week on an aggressive schedule with the goal of finishing construction before the start of winter.

The roadway is being designed to accommodate the increased visitor traffic that now travels the road. The project includes a road base never installed before, guard rails, and asphalt within the road’s existing boundaries. In addition, interceptor lines allowing connection of nearby subdivisions to the sewer system will be installed.

Tamarack Resort has agreed to design, manage and pay for this first project on the Donnelly-Tamarack corridor in exchange for the county working on the second project on Roseberry Street to be implemented in summer 2006.

“Each side will account for expenses which will be computed toward the 30/70 percent split between Tamarack and the County which was agreed upon at the time of the conditional use permit,” says Jean-Pierre Boespflug CEO of Tamarack. “For this year we are advancing the full $1,900,000 for the road and $1,200,000 for the sewer interceptor. Over time we are made whole by the County and the Sewer District, making this a fair agreement where we help the community by being the bank for a while”.

“There will be traffic disturbance during this road project. Some pipe has to be buried 20 feet below the road surface” says Rod Kesler at Masco, the contractor on the project.

Construction Schedule:
Starting this week, the first phase of the project will focus on rebuilding the 6,000-foot stretch of road starting at the Tamarack Falls store and extending south. Construction crews will work six days a week on the project between the hours of 7 a.m. -7 p.m. The road will be restricted to one lane with flaggers directing traffic. Phase two of the project is set to begin the week August 25 and will focus on installing the interceptor lines to link up homes along West Mountain to the sewer system. During this time construction will run seven days a week and sometimes 24 hours a day to expedite the sewer upgrades. The rest of the road base, guardrails and paving will be finished on a six-day week construction schedule with the goal of finishing the project by Thanksgiving.

A voice recording on the Tamarack Main Number 208-325-1000 will keep visitors informed of the day-to-day construction evolution and roadway impacts.
