November 22, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- A veteran housekeeper with over 23 years experience in changing linens and cleaning rooms
at the same property has won San Francisco's first Hotel Hero award.
Ana Mendoza, housekeeper for the Donatello was honored with the First Place award in the "Beyond the Call
of Duty" category. She was honored at a gala diner celebration with the city's mayor and her hotel's General
Manager, Trond Aakre in attendance.
Over 50 San Francisco hotels recently created the Hotel Hero Awards Program to honor line-level employees who make
the hospitality industry an exciting and enriching place to work. The objective of the program was to recognize
and reward hospitality employees who had delivered extraordinary customer service.
Mendoza competed with 55 other nominees from city hotels. She has been with the Donatello since 1981, when she
was 18 years old.
According to Lolita Manaot, Executive Housekeeper of the Donatello, "Ana is truly one of a kind. She is dedicated
to her job and remains focused on her responsibilities. She has great follow through and is a superb self starter."
Mendoza was nominated for the award because of assistance she provided as a caregiver to a handicapped guest whose
husband was admitted to the hospital during their stay at the Donatello. She provided services to the guest while
continuing to perform her regular duties at the hotel.
Owned by Shell Vacations and managed by Shell Hospitality, Inc., the Donatello is an elegant 140-unit vacation
ownership property with a distinctive European ambiance located at 501 Post Street in downtown San Francisco.
