Press Release: TIMESHARE CONSUMERS ASSOCIATION
November 16, 2004
HODSOCK, WORKSOP, England -- Sunterra Europe, the largest timeshare operator in the UK, could face a claim from
thousands of its owners over allegations of miss-selling. The total claim could exceed £150million.
Sunterra Europe, based in Lancaster and previously known as The Grand Vacation Company, has almost 100,000 timeshare
owners, 45,000 of whom are members of a points club called Club Sunterra, formerly called The Grand Vacation Club.
Over the years many Club Sunterra members have complained that they cannot get the holidays they were promised
having paid upwards of £8,000. They say that they have been miss-sold and now want compensation for loss
of benefits and enjoyment. And any who fail to pay their annual fees of over £450 risk losing everything
they have paid.
The Timeshare Consumers Association (TCA) has launched a campaign to help unhappy Club Sunterra members by forming
a compensation group in liaison with law firm Irwin Mitchell, who successfully obtained a judgement of nearly
£4million for victims of timeshare fraudster John Palmer earlier this year.
TCA expect up to 20,000 Club Sunterra members will join the group.
Anyone wanting to join the group can do so by visiting the website http://www.vogas.org
or telephoning 01909 591 100.
ITV plan to broadcast stories of dissatisfied Club Sunterra members at 8pm on Tuesday 16 November in the “Package
Holidays Uncovered” series.
