Genth Named GATE Chairman

Former ARDA Chairman Heads International Association

Press Release: ARDA
May 26, 2004
WASHINGTON, DC -- The Global Alliance for Timeshare Excellence (GATE) yesterday formally announced the election of Anthony R. Genth as its chairman. The election took place at GATE's meeting on May 4, 2004, during the American Resort Development Association's (ARDA) International Convention and Exposition. Since its inception, GATE has operated with a rotating chairmanship shared by its member association's chief operating officer, but recently resolved to elect an industry leader to serve as volunteer chair for a two-year term. Genth is the first such volunteer chairman selected by the alliance.

Genth is a longtime industry supporter and served as ARDA's Chairman during his tenure in the timeshare industry. He was a major force behind the creation of GATE, the first global partnership of timeshare associations. He is particularly suited to this position, having lived in a wide variety of cultures including the Philippines, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Egypt, Venezuela, Canada and Mexico. After a 15 year career in banking and finance, Genth entered the timeshare industry in 1978 as the developer of Streamside at Vail, a 150 unit purpose-built project in Colorado. Since then, Genth has provided consulting, marketing and sales services to over 50 clients throughout the world, actually starting up marketing and sales operations in more than a dozen countries. Genth is now a partner in Leisure Marketing Group (LMG), the first firm to offer worldwide development, marketing and sales services to clients in the timeshare industry.

GATE was established in 1999 by the leaders of timeshare associations in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East, Australia, and South Africa to promote the timeshare industry around the world. Each association retains its own identity, but collectively, the associations seek to cooperate on issues of common concern in order to advance the growth of the timeshare industry worldwide, the interests of their members, and the consumers they serve.

GATE seeks to serve as a resource to ensure that legislative and regulatory proposals are reasonable and conducive to the industry's business. GATE also seeks to serve as a resource and positive influence to encourage the industry to conduct its business in such a manner as to create positive public perception.
