July 9, 2004
WHITEFISH, MT -- Winter Sports, Inc., owner and operator of Big Mountain Resort, is pleased to announce the creation of the Access and Integrated Recreation Department or AIR, a new adaptive services department designed to provide equal access to resort programs, amenities and services, as well as serve in an advisory capacity to resort management and development teams.

AIR is the first department of its kind established and maintained by a year round alpine resort and is headed by Tim Rubbert, Program Manager, and Nick Arnold, Program Coordinator.

“AIR is evidence of Big Mountain’s devotion to the guest experience and its place as an industry leader,” said Rubbert. “We are embarking on a groundbreaking endeavor and Nick and I are committed to making the resort accessible.”

Tim Rubbert is a 14-year veteran of Big Mountain’s Snowsports Center, staff bear naturalist, wildlife photographer and former Walk in the Treetops guide. Tim also has Level I certification for PSIA Adaptive and Alpine instruction.

Nick Arnold is a former United States Forest Service Ranger, USFS Protection Officer, Recreational Specialist and Level II Law Enforcement Officer. He is former owner of Accessibility Surveys and Profiles (ASP), an accessibility contracting company servicing the continental United States. Nick also has Level I certification for PSIA Adaptive and Alpine instruction.

Recent resort accessibility improvements include a wheel chair ramp at the Glacier Chaser ticket outlet, wheel chair availability in select resort facilities, new parking spaces reserved for guests with disabilities in the village and at the Outpost, in addition to the purchase of adaptive equipment for winter and summer seasons available for rent by all Big Mountain guests.

The AIR office is located in the Glacier Chaser ticket outlet at the east end of Birch Lot in Big Mountain’s village. For more information, please call (406) 862-1737 or email timr@bigmtn.com or nicka@bigmtn.com.
