The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa, Jupiter Announces Spa Director, Michelle Doherty

Press Release: Marriott International, Inc.
June 16, 2003
JUPITER, FL -- Committed to upholding The Ritz-Carlton’s legendary standards of service excellence, Michelle Doherty has traveled from one Florida coast to another to assume her new position as spa director for The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa, Jupiter.

The much-anticipated Ritz-Carlton Spa in Jupiter will primarily service residents of the new 285-acre private residential enclave. A limited number of non-resident memberships are available to the public. Doherty says Members of the spa can look forward to the highest level of personalized, service-oriented experiences.

“My role is to ensure that my staff delivers service that exceeds the stringent guidelines of The Ritz-Carlton,” Doherty said. “The difference between this spa and other local day spas is that we are part of a private community here in Jupiter, so we have the unique opportunity to get to know our Members as neighbors.”

Doherty will provide comprehensive leadership, direction and supervision for the entire spa operation. This includes designing and implementing the spa menu, concept and theme, as well as establishing the spa’s standards, policies and procedures.

Doherty comes from The Ritz-Carlton family, as she was previously assistant spa director for The Ritz-Carlton, Naples. She was a key contributor to the grand opening of the five-star, 52,000-square-foot resort spa, which is a favorite on the west coast of Florida.

Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Doherty spent two years training spa managers and spa staff members on board cruise lines as operations manager for Steiner Management Services. She also spent five years traveling throughout the world as spa director for cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruise Lines and Carnival.

The 15,000-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Spa is scheduled to open this November. The facility will feature a luxurious garden courtyard, 10 spa therapy suites, junior Olympic-size pool, tennis facility, a deluxe nail treatment center and private wet lounge dens. The state-of-the-art fitness center will provide a movement studio, cardio center, resistance training equipment, conditioning training for golfers, plus a variety of exercise classes.

According to Doherty, the tranquil, Mediterranean-style spa will be created to provide “an oasis of serenity, a tranquil wellspring of fitness, a soothing retreat.” The spa therapy menu offers treatments based on the healing effects of the sea and land. The Ritz-Carlton Spa philosophy, sanitas per aqua, “health through water,” honors the tradition of water therapies famous throughout the world since ancient times.

To this end, sounds of flowing water emanate from fountains throughout the spa, easing guests into a relaxed state. Fresh, Florida citrus from oranges, grapefruits, lemons and key limes, will be used to enliven the senses and nourish the skin.

Designed to provide the ultimate in fitness, wellness and relaxation, The Ritz-Carlton Spa will also specialize in assessment and therapy programs for golfers, tennis players, skiers and all sports enthusiasts. Programs will be tailored to complement and enhance the active lifestyle through comprehensive analysis, personal training, nutritional guidance and rejuvenating treatments. Pre- and post-sports therapy massages soothe sore muscles. Sports therapy manicures and pedicures heal active hands and feet, and facial treatments pamper skin touched by the sun.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Jupiter will be the centerpiece of a 68,000-square-foot clubhouse that will serve residents and Members of the private club. A friendly, social atmosphere pervades a member’s lounge, tennis courts, locker rooms with stewards, a resort-style swimming pool, a Ritz Kids children’s program and two private dining facilities – a five-star signature restaurant and a casual pool bar and grill.

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa, Jupiter features three distinctive home-ownership options – The Residences, which are Mediterranean-style courtyard homes; The Estates, 4,200-5,500 square-foot homes with golf course views; and Club Homes, which provide Members with 35 days of luxury vacation living in Jupiter and/or at four other resort locations around the country. The community also offers private social and spa memberships, and golf memberships to its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
