PORTLAND, OR -- The PGA TOUR in conjunction with JELD-WEN Inc., and Peter Jacobsen Productions, Inc. (PJP) yesterday
announced that The Tradition, one of the major golf championships on The Champions Tour (formerly SENIOR PGA TOUR),
will relocate to Portland in 2003. The tournament has been scheduled for the week of August 25-31 at the Reserve
Vineyards & Golf Club in Aloha, Ore. JELD-WEN, inc. will serve as title sponsor of the new "JELD-WEN Tradition."
Founded by real estate developer Lyle Anderson in 1989 to honor the great players of the game, The Tradition has
been played in Scottsdale, AZ. Jack Nicklaus is a four-time winner of the Lyle Anderson trophy while the defending
champion of the $2 million event is Jim Thorpe.
Speaking at a news conference to announce the tournament, PJP founder Peter Jacobsen said, "Several months
ago we set out to bring professional golf back to Portland. Today we are happy to announce that one of the major
tournaments on The Champions Tour will be played in Portland beginning in 2003. The JELD-WEN Tradition will bring
millions of dollars to the local economy and should be a great time for everyone involved."
"We are very excited about bringing The Tradition to Portland," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem.
"We have every confidence that The JELD-WEN Tradition will be an exciting and entertaining event for the players
and for the Pacific Northwest."
