LAHAINA, MAUI, HI -- Shell Vacations LLC, in conjunction with the Valley Isle Vacation Club, Inc., has named the
senior sales management team for their soon-to-be-opened off-site Broker Preview Center in Lahaina, Maui.
Michael W. Poppen has been named Director of Sales, responsible for the complete operation of the Lahaina location
from sales to budgeting. Poppen's 17 years of vacation ownership experience includes sales positions in Lake Tahoe
and at Shell's Kona Coast Resort and Paniolo Greens, both on the Big Island. As Sales Manager at Paniolo Greens,
he led his team to the sell out of the property, completing $97,000,000 in sales in three years.
Another vacation ownership veteran with seven years of experience, Richard A. Johnson, has been named Senior Sales
Manager for the Maui Preview Center. Johnson previously served in several positions at Shell Vacations, including
two years on the sales line at Paniolo Greens, two years at Holua Resort at the Beachboy and most recently as senior
sales Manager at the Kauai Coast Resort. He will supervise the sales staff of about 20 professionals, handle day-to-day
operations as well as sales training and expanding the staff as the tour flows increase.
Located in the Lahaina Shopping Center at 900 Front Street in Lahaina, Maui, the 6,600 square foot Center is expected
to open in early December. The new Center will be operated by Valley Isle Vacation Club, Inc. operator of many
OPC locations in Maui that will provide tour flow to the new Preview Center.
According to Robert Bluh, President of Valley Isle Vacation Club, "The opening of this state-of-the-art Preview
Center will provide an important presence for Shell on Maui. We are extremely excited to be selling the Shell Vacations
Club product."
During the past 14 years, Shell Vacations has developed or been responsible for the sales and marketing of six
Hawaiian resorts and is currently selling its Shell Vacations Club product at The Holua Resort on The Big Island
and the Kauai Coast Resort on Kauai. Shell was also responsible for sales and marketing efforts for the Maui Schooner
and the Lawai Beach Resort.
Since converting from a traditional interval-based product to a points-based system in 1999, Shell continues to
experience dramatic growth and is on track to exceed $160 million in net vacation ownership sales in 2002.
