Press Release: AH&LA and ARDA
November 25, 2002
NEW YORK, NY -- The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) and the American Resort Development Associaton
(ARDA) have formed a joint group that focuses solely on the business and commercial needs of the vacation ownership
industry. The newly structured AH&LA/ARDA Vacation Ownership Committee's primary responsibility is to continually
drive and promote the lodging industry's fastest growing segment.
"AH&LA and ARDA are key sister organizations that are already working in tandem on educational and legislative
issues facing resort and hotel operators. As such, it only makes sense that we combine the expertise of both memberships
into a single brain trust through this joint committee. Together, we can accomplish so much on behalf of both of
the hotel and vacation ownership industries," said ARDA President Howard Nusbaum.
Initiated by Nusbaum and AH&LA President and CEO Joseph A. McInerney, CHA, the committee will provide education
and research support of the vacation ownership division, which includes some of the lodging industry's most recognizable
and successful hotel corporations.
"Through the experience of our combined executives, we are confident this group will collectively explore
the many opportunities offered by this exciting and growing segment. These ambitious individuals have a commonality
of interests in the vacation ownership division and are eager to showcase our associations," as well as the
industry's, commitment to persistently serve its business interests as best we can," said past ARDA Chairman
and current Committee Chairman Edwin McMullen, Sr. RRP, senior partner, E.H. McMullen & Associates.
The AH&LA/ARDA Vacation Ownership Committee is scheduled to meet twice yearly -once during the AH&LA Fall
Conference and again at the ARDA International Convention and Expo held each spring. For more information, please
contact Taffy Davies, AH&LA director of member state relations, at (202) 289-3103 or tdavies@ahla.com.
AH&LA is a 92-year old federation of state lodging associations throughout the United States with some 13,000 property members worldwide, representing more than 1.7million guest rooms. AH&LA provides its members with assistance in operations, education, and communication, and lobbies on Capital Hill to provide a business climate in which the industry can continue to prosper. Individual state associations provide representation at the state level and offer many additional cost-saving benefits.
