Press Release: Perini Building Co.
HENDERSON, NV -- In an unusual event for the desert, Perini Building Co. set the last piece of steel on the Ritz-Carlton's,
Lake Las Vegas old-world Florentine bridge.
This 21st century version crosses the width of the 320-acre man-made lake. The three-story bridge is connected
to the Ritz-Carlton hotel and houses 70 of its finest rooms and suites, in addition to the Ritz-Carlton Club and
a pedestrian walkway that crosses the lake.
Perini's $93 million design/assist contract includes building the 350-room Ritz-Carlton hotel and bridge, a freestanding
25,000 sq. ft. spa, lake-edge enhancements, lagoon, pool and a 1,400-car garage. Perini is also constructing the
shell of a stand-alone casino. Perini Building Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Perini Corp. (AMEX: PCR), was
awarded the contract by Village Hotel Investors, LLC in May 2001.
The five-star Ritz-Carlton is designed to resemble a Tuscan mansion that has been enlarged over generations. Distinctive
architectural features include multiple levels creating a stair-stepped roofline, vaulted ceilings, ornate metal
balconies, and an open-air courtyard that flows into the main plaza of Montelago Village.
The Ritz-Carlton is the focal point of the 50-acre Mediterranean-themed village. When complete, Montelago Village
will offer waterfront shops, cafes, resort-style condominiums and one mile of shoreline.
The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas is part of Lake Las Vegas Resort, one of Nevada's most exclusive master-planned
communities. When complete, Lake Las Vegas Resort will include six golf courses, five hotel properties, a residential
community and Montelago Village.
The design team working with Perini on the project consists of the Friedmutter Group, architect of record; Wimberly,
Allison, Tong and Goo, design architect; and Texeira Inc., interior designer.
``The resort is set to open in December of 2002 and is proceeding on time and budget,'' said Steve DeWees, project
manager for Perini Building Co.
The Ritz-Carlton is the third project Perini has been involved with at Lake Las Vegas Resort. Perini also built
SouthShore Clubhouse and the Hyatt Regency Resort, the location of the recent movie America's Sweetheart.
About the Construction of the Bridge
The bridge's three-story exterior facade will resemble the main portion of the Tuscan-themed hotel. Its underlying
structure, however, is engineered with the stability of a transportation bridge. It is constructed with four concrete
foundations. Each of the foundations has 16-36 inch steel piles that reach the bottom of the lake.
The piles (hollow metal cylinders ranging up to 90 feet in length) were hammered into the lake using cranes until
solid rock was found. For stability, they are filled with rebar and concrete. The bridge is high enough for a 21-foot
sailboat to pass underneath.
